This is the Washington Monument, firstly reflected in the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall, and secondly taken close up - by me lying on my back on the grass.

There is an abundance of these pretty red trees in Arlington Cemetary, which the military burial ground; JFK and Jackie Onassis are also buried here. The Lincoln Memorial - Lincoln's hands are carved to spell US sign language for "AL" - ie, his initials - but nobody knows whether this is deliberate or not.

The White House! It's much smaller than it looked in Independence Day when they blew it up...The Capitol, which is the American equivalent of the Houses of Parliament.

About a third of the way up, the Washington Monument changes colour - this is because they had to stop building it due to the outbreak of the civil war, and they couldn't match the stone exactly afterwards. On the right, the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetary - a very dignified ceremony, only slightly marred by a cell phone going off in the crowd in the middle of it
